Test Drive Unlimited 2 Review

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is an open world racing game. It was published on Feb 2011 by Atari. The game was developed by Eden Games.

The open world game includes the Island of Ibiza and later in the game, Hawaii. On both Islands there are many roads to explore.

You progress in the game by passing licence tests. Each licence allows you to enter racing events that consist of time trials, average speed time trials, races and elimination races. The licences get harder as the game progresses. So do the races. You are given a small amount of money at the beginning of the game to buy a car and a place to stay.

As you earn more money by completing races and random tasks on the maps, you can start to buy move expensive cars and houses.

The most fun I had in the game was exploring for hours while listening to the music. I remember I once spent a whole day just driving around and listening to the music. The game has one of the best soundtracks in a game. None of the songs I have heard of before.

The graphics are still okay if you turn the settings up to the maximum levels. The game is quite old, and the map is not as detailed as these days open world games. Some of the houses just repeat over and over again. There are some nice places on the map that you can take a photo of to earn some money.

The voice acting in the game is bad and does not happen that much. The game has time passing with day and night and rain.

I did not explore the online parts of the game and the servers are probably shut down by now.

It takes a while to finish the game and the final race in the game can take up to an hour.

There is also a system in the game called F.I.R.M. where you earn money for near missing cars and traveling at high speed. The bar keeps growing until you hit something, so its better to cash in early.

Overall the game was very enjoyable to play. I played this game for hours and hours. If I played it today I probably would not find it as enjoyable as the graphics are outdated. The most enjoyable part of the game was just exploring and listening to the soundtrack.
